What does Amazon sku mean? What are the Amazon sku coding rules?

Amazon is the most popular cross-border e-commerce platform in the world. There are many consumers on the Amazon platform, and of course there are also many sellers. When setting product information, Amazon sellers need to access a lot of data that they don’t know much about. So what does Amazon sku mean?

Amazon sku refers to the unit of measurement for inventory in and out, which can be pieces, boxes, pallets, etc. In the retail industry, SKU codes and quantities are used to manage goods. The SKU code can be composed of numbers or letters, or a combination of the two. Amazon sellers can better manage their inventory system through the use of sku.

Amazon does not have any mandatory requirements for the number of product SKUs. Sellers only need to complete the corresponding category review when uploading product listings. They can set the SKU code themselves, or leave the SKU code space blank and let Amazon generate it automatically.

What are the Amazon sku coding rules?

1. Sellers must fill in the sku when uploading products. Amazon sellers can give their own product numbers according to their own product management rules and fill in the sku compiled by the seller to facilitate subsequent product management. If the novice seller does not know how to write it, the Amazon backend will automatically generate it.

2. Once there are more SKUs for store products, it will not be as easy to manage as with regular coding. Therefore, it is recommended that sellers compile their own Amazon SKUs. It should be noted that Amazon SKUs are unique, that is, each product is marked with a unique SKU code and cannot be reused, otherwise it will cause inventory confusion.

3. The Amazon SKU code can be up to 40 characters long and can be letters, numbers, or a combination of letters and numbers. Combining the product's letters with the ISBN or UPC when writing the SKU code is a common coding method currently used by sellers on Amazon.

4. Each product corresponds to a unique SKU number. If a store has multiple variants of a product, there will be multiple SKUs. For example, if a piece of clothing has 3 colors and 4 different sizes, there will be 12 different SKUs. Each character corresponds to a unique feature of the product, such as product type, color, size, style, etc.

Amazon sellers must follow relevant rules when setting sku. Setting sku is mainly to facilitate their own store management, to be able to adjust product specifications and clean up inventory in a timely manner. The most convenient thing is that it can help Amazon sellers quickly find the attributes of the product.
