Is the domestic version of PayPal no longer available for payment? What is the difference between it and the foreign version?

Paypal now has a domestic version, which means that people in mainland China can also register and use PayPal normally. It can be said that the experience is the same as using Alipay. So does the domestic version of PayPal no longer work?

Able to pay

1. What is the difference between the domestic and foreign versions of PayPal?

It can be said that except for the Chinese mainland version of PayPal (hereinafter referred to as the Chinese mainland version of PayPal), PayPal accounts in other regions are considered international accounts. Chinese mainland version of PayPal is restricted in some functions and uses, while PayPal accounts in other regions are not much different. The main differences between the two are:

1. Domestic PayPal can only transfer money to non-domestic PayPal, and domestic PayPal cannot transfer money to each other; the international version of PayPal is not restricted and can transfer money to PayPal accounts in all regions.

2. When withdrawing cash from PayPal in the domestic region to a bank card, a handling fee of US$35 is required for each transaction; the international version does not require this fee. For example, withdrawing cash from PayPal in the US region to a US bank account is free.

3. Many international merchants (mainly American merchants) do not support domestic PayPal payments and only support international PayPal account payments.

4. The domestic version of PayPal can be bound to domestic debit cards and credit cards for payment, and the payment threshold is lower; the international version of PayPal cannot be bound to domestic debit cards and requires a multi-currency credit card.

2. Should I choose the domestic version or the international version?

It depends on your needs. If the domestic version is sufficient to meet your needs, then the domestic version is enough, with low threshold and low risk. The international version of PayPal has more complete functions, but the threshold is higher and the risk is also higher.

To register and use PayPal in China, you need: a domestic mobile phone number, an ID number, and an ordinary bank debit card. These three are enough.

To register and use PayPal International, you need: an overseas mobile phone number, a stable overseas IP address, a credit card issued by Visa or MasterCard in all currencies, and an overseas address. If risk control is triggered, you may need to conduct overseas identity verification, and you will be asked to provide some materials to prove the authenticity of your account.

In summary, the domestic version of PayPal is capable of payment. However, the PayPal account recharge option is not currently available in mainland China.
